Born in September 1975 in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Dallas, TX, Dr. Ian Weisberg’s early life was steeped in the vibrant culture of the Lone Star State. As a three-sport athlete in high school, he was recognized as “all southwest” in their conference in soccer and in his sophomore year, The Greenhill School tennis team won the National Championship at Duke University. His passion for sports was ignited in his youth, rooting for Dallas sports teams and developing a lifelong allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, University of Texas Longhorns, SMU Mustangs, and Syracuse Orangemen in football, as well as a fervent support for the United States Men’s National Soccer Team.

Education

Dr. Weisberg’s academic pursuits began at Emory University, where he earned a B.A. in Economics and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, a testament to his academic excellence. His desire to explore diverse cultures led him to study at the London School of Economics and the Institute of Italian Studies in Florence, Italy, before returning to Emory for his Doctor of Medicine degree.

His medical training took him to UT Southwestern’s Parkland Memorial Hospital for an Internal Medicine residency, followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Florida, Jacksonville, where he served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. Dr. Weisberg further specialized in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Chicago, acquiring skills during his second year in his Advanced Clinical Electrophysiology fellowship in complex ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation, SVT and ventricular tachycardia and implantation of the Watchman Left Atrial Appendage Closure, pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices.

Career

Professionally, Dr. Ian Weisberg has been at the forefront of cardiac electrophysiology, with tenures at the Heart Rhythm Center in Pensacola, Florida, and the Okaloosa Heart and Vascular Center. His expertise in procedures such as ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, Watchman LAAO implantation, and laser lead extractions has earned him a reputation as one of the top implanters in Florida and a trailblazer in his field.

Dr. Weisberg’s accomplishments extend beyond the operating room. He has been recognized as the We Care Doctor of the Year in Escambia County in 2012 and 2014 and was among the first U.S. physicians to implant the Biotronik DX ICD. His commitment to innovation is also reflected in his involvement in the establishment of one of the first IAC accredited EP labs in the country.  He also directed the construction and launch of the EP labs at Gulf Breeze Hospital and North Okaloosa Medical Center which created a new service line at both hospitals.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Weisberg is a proud father and maintains a rich personal life. He is an avid athlete, enjoying tennis, golf, soccer, bicycling, and working out to stay fit. His love for music spans genres, with favorites ranging from Beethoven and Mozart to Guns N’ Roses and Coldplay. Dr. Weisberg is also a voracious reader, with a preference for authors like Dan Brown, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and John Grisham, and finds inspiration in movies featuring actors like Robin Williams and Al Pacino.

Giving Back

Dr. Weisberg’s humanitarian efforts are notable, with his involvement in designing an electrophysiology operating room at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, aiming to bring advanced heart rhythm procedures to regions where they are currently unavailable. His volunteer work extends to coaching youth sports teams in the Gulf Breeze Sports Association, further showcasing his commitment to community and youth development.
